Apprentice – Mechanical Engineering

Oxford Instruments are recruiting for a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice to allow them to attain the skills required to function as a Manufacturing Technician.

Wage £13,000 - £14,000 per annum

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend off the job training at a Further Education College or other training provider selected by the company
  • Complete a 13 Cell placement throughout our factory with a detailed Skills Matrix as evidence of understand and knowledge learnt
  • Produce the necessary portfolios required for the PEO (Performing Engineering Operations) and NVQ qualifications
  • Complete all homework required by the college or Training provider in a timely manner
  • Undertake a design and build project for the HNC based on an improvement to an OINS product or a process
  • Problem solving and fault finding – you will be able to diagnose assembly, test and wiring problems and propose effective solutions
  • To gain multiple Product knowledge from day-to-day exposure and key skills from on­the-job training provided by each Cell placement
  • Quality control – able to understand how the quality system works and where controlled documents are stored
  • Health and Safety – you will learn the importance of health and safety in our environment, become familiar with all the policies and regulations. Be able to carry out risk assessments and adhere to our health and safety requirements at all times
  • Planning and Supply Chains – you will understand the importance of Planning and how the Supply chain works
  • Service, Installation and Customer Support -the opportunity for off-site work and Product Installation during the Apprenticeship, including overseas travel (depending on business shipment requirements).
  • Change management – you will understand how ECR (Engineering Change Requests) and QDR (Quality Deficiency Report) processes work
  • Understand 5s Implementation – apply to current methods used and offer ideas or improvements
  • Target cell selection – agree a target cell in line with business needs and own career aspirations
  • Support schedule adherence by planning, prioritising, and coordinating available resources to achieve work programmes in line with the cell plan
  • Be able to recognise team customers both internal and external and strive to satisfy their needs
  • Ensure all personal protective equipment is used in compliance with Health and Safety guidelines
  • Carry out any other task that may be reasonably requested by the company

Education / Qualifications:

  • GCSE level English, Maths and Science (grade 4 or above)
