Apprentice Engineering Technician

The Apprentice Engineering Technician will undertake a structured 4-year apprenticeship programme combining academic study with practical workplace experience. Throughout the programme, the apprentice will develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required to support advanced manufacturing operations while gaining experience across a range of engineering disciplines. On successful completion, the apprentice will become a qualified Engineering Technician within one of YASA's technical departments, supporting the development, maintenance, optimisation and continuous improvement of our world-class manufacturing technologies.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working safely at all times in accordance with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Successfully completing all elements of the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship, including academic study, workplace learning and competency assessments.
  • Developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified Engineering Technician.
  • Supporting Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams with the safe operation, maintenance and improvement of manufacturing equipment.
  • Assisting with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers.
  • Learning structured fault-finding techniques across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Supporting the installation, commissioning, validation and optimisation of manufacturing equipment and tooling.
  • Participating in Root Cause Problem Solving (RPS) and Preventative Problem Solving (PPS) activities to identify and eliminate repeat equipment and process issues.
  • Supporting Continuous Improvement initiatives that improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Developing an understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, standardised work and waste elimination techniques.
  • Learning to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, process documentation and technical specifications.
  • Accurately recording maintenance activities, engineering data and work completed using company systems and documentation.
  • Supporting the implementation and maintenance of engineering standards, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Building effective working relationships across Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations and Engineering functions.
  • Demonstrating professionalism, accountability, curiosity and a proactive approach to learning and personal development.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Undertaking rotational placements across technical departments to broaden engineering knowledge and develop a well-rounded understanding of YASA's manufacturing operations.
  • Undertaking any other duties appropriate to the apprenticeship programme and level of competence.
