At MTC Training and OAS, we understand the critical need for skilled professionals in the nuclear sector. Our nuclear apprenticeships are designed to equip your workforce with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to thrive in this vital industry.
Our Level 2 Nuclear Apprenticeships builds on a strong foundation of traditional skills overlaid with themes of emerging technologies, equipping apprentices for a rapidly developing nuclear sector. The programme enables both your new and existing employees to progress their careers by developing into multi-skilled engineers through process ownership.
During their fourteen-month apprenticeship, learners will spend most of their time on-site with your business and will travel to the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) training centre for additional training on a block release model. During this time, they will have one-to-one support from an industry expert, gaining the confidence, skills, and knowledge to carry out their work safely while helping you to optimise your business’s operations.
This course is designed to equip apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to become proficient Health Physics Monitors. It includes comprehensive training in radiological and contamination control, monitoring, and safety procedures.
Duration: 14 months
Delivery: Block release at the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) training centre
Cost: £13,000 (Levy support and UKAEA funding available)

Industry Collaboration: We work closely with leading organisations such as Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) and UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) to deliver customised apprenticeship programmes that meet the specific needs of the nuclear sector.
Comprehensive Training: Our programmes encompass a wide range of skills, from nuclear operations to health physics monitoring and engineering maintenance. We ensure our apprentices receive high-quality, consistent training that equips them for real-world challenges.
Future-Ready Workforce: With the nuclear sector poised for significant growth, our apprenticeships are designed to provide transferable skills that ensure long-term employment opportunities in the industry.
The Apprenticeship Levy means all UK employers with a payroll of more than £3 million per year are required to invest 0.5% of their annual salary bill into apprenticeships.
If you are a levy-paying employer, we can support you to maximise the return on your investment by using your levy to fund high-class training for your apprentices with OAS MTC Training.
If you have exhausted your Apprenticeship Levy, you can enter a co-investment agreement where you can still benefit from industry-leading apprenticeships with just a 5% contribution towards the training costs.
If you are an SME that does not have to pay the levy, we can help you to cover the cost of your apprentice’s training through the Lloyds Bank Transfer Fund.
Set up by our partner Lloyds Bank, the fund is designed to help SMEs take on apprentices by covering the entire cost of training an apprentice with MTC Training.
